Enabling Works, Asda, Glenrothes
New Asda Superstore, Glenrothes, Scotland
Client: ASDA
Contract Management: BAM Construction
Engineers: Bielski
On behalf of BAM Construction, CON-FORM implemented an enabling works package to support the development of a new Asda Superstore in Glenrothes, Fife.
The contract included site clearance, earthworks, e-found, rolling dynamic compaction, stabilisation, knotweed encapsulation and construction of perimeter retaining walls.
Prior to the site being cut and filled to the finished levels, area under the building footprint and external yard were re-engineered by means of excavation, stabilisation and RDC as deemed necessary to achieve a bearing of 150 kn/m2 under the building and 50Kn/m2 under the yard.
Long term settlement issues are addressed within the e-found solution with the application of Rolling Dynamic Compaction in addition to standard method compaction techniques.
During the cut to fill exercise, knotweed was encapsulated and buried beneath an area of the car park.
Once the base areas had been improved the site was cut, filled and stabilised as necessary to bring the finished levels.
Areas were treated to achieve 15% CBR internally and 30% externally to minimise the requirement to export site materials and import virgin aggregates.
Around the perimeter of the site it was necessary to construct various retaining walls.
Key Benefits of the CON-FORM Solution
- Implementation of the CON-FORM solution achieve savings in both cost and time to implement.
- Re-use of site materials achieved by permanently addressing geo-technical issues.
- E-found solution allowed normal pad footings and a ground bearing floor slab.
- E-found solution throughout the service yard are to accommodate future store extension if required.
