Creating a Barrier Cut-Off Wall at O'Neill Road, BelfastCON-FORM, as main contractor to Rathmore Estates, carried out remediation to a former landfill site to enable it to be redeveloped for housing. The work involved the engineering of a waste encapsulation system.

The site was cleared of top soil and Rolling Dynamic Compaction applied to reduce future settlement. A geo-grid was then installed to improve the ground bearing characteristics of the site.

The areas designated for the estate roads were excavated down to clean clay and the waste removed compacted on top of the geo-grid.

Backfilling of the excavated road areas was then carried out using a 5% CBR stabilised material, ready for the installation of the final road construction.

The site was profiled and a gas venting system installed to eliminate the potential build up of harmful gases. The contaminated material was then encapsulated through the use of bentonite mats and a barrier cut-off wall, which was installed by one of CON-FORM's specialist teams.

The housing and gardens area was then backfilled with approximately 2m of clean fill.
